Steampunk Pin-up Girl by Karla-Chan Steampunk Pin-up Girl by Karla-Chan
So i drew this awhile ago according to DA September 2011. I did do some of the colouring back in September but i lost the drive to finish it. But today as i was finishing colouring another picture i thought i might as well.

I am going to give this a background at a later date. But for now i am going to leave it like this. But i think the no background at all thing is kind of cool. I have no idea what i am going to do for a background yet, but i will have a play and see.

Thanks so much, i am happy you think she is sexy. I was trying to make her look sexy!

I think the colouring is mixed personally because i can tell which bits i did 3 months ago and which bits i did days ago. But i guess that is a good think.

And thanks i am happy you like my steampunk stuff, i am actually working on a new picture. I have all the pencils done i just have to ink it!

Thanks, it is why i was going for pin up. I think i am going to re-visit this pose at some point because i made some pretty major errors which were kindly pointed out to me.

I am happy you like her smile, i kind of wanted it to be a bit cheeky, but sexy. And thanks i am happy you like her clothes.

Thanks, a lot of my browns are running out so i needed a colour i felt would go well with them, but not look too strange for steampunk.

Thanks i was going for Victorian but a bit more rebellious.

You did well with her face and the hair is good too.

It so hard to see one's own work objectively. There are so many details that we can see in other people's art but not in our own.

I all I would say that this piece is quite good, but some more practice you can get even better.
(btw using a reference for some sketches is a good way to understand how the human body works under different poses and angles, but I'm sure you know that already :D )

Good show!

I sometimes use references, but not always. I normally have things i remember about human anatomy that normally do me OK. This was also drawn a few months ago and i could most likely do better. The person who commented before you gave me so awesome advise and i would know how to make this better for next time.

Good advice is more much better than. "good job!" Those are just such pointless comments...

Practice makes pancakes!!! Good luck! :D

Sometimes they can help with confidence though. So they are useful in that way, but i do admit i do like comments that give me advise more.

Thanks

It's not bad pose-wise and the outfit is quite interesting. I quite like her hairstyle, too. There are a few 'but's though:
-her right hand is physically impossible. I suggest you just look at your own hand if you support weight on it - I'm not sure how to describe it (it'd be easier to just draw) - there should be no buldge thing below the index finger, and the thumb shouldn't be so high - in fact it should lay next to the palm, to indicate relaxed hand. The weight of body usually is supported by that part of palm that is closer to the wrist, not the one with the fingers, unless you want it that way, in which case the entire palm is raised, not flat. I have a feeling you went for some kind of mix and it really isn't working too well.
-her left leg seems to be too far to the side. It kind of makes it seem like she has VERY wide hips while being assless (I think that's impossible...?) The knee should probably be around the same area as her left hand.

While the hand thing is possible to fix, the leg thing won't be that easy, so I'd just leave it.

Anyway, I think it works well without a background. If you do make one, can I suggest making it like a photo? (meaning frame it etc) It could be an interesting little additional thing.

Looking at it again, you are fully right about the left leg, i can see where that would need to be to look right now.

I see what you mean about the hand looking strange, that i think was just me making a mistake in in the shape at the time. I will try and be more careful in the future. I also agree that if her palm was flatter it would be better. I do like this pose, so i think if i re-visit it i will try and edit the things i did wrong and make it work.

Thanks so much for the advise, because i didn't see them until you pointed it out. I am not sure about the photo thing, it depends what i end up having a play with. It has tired me out doing the work i have so far, so i am too tired to think of what i might use as a background.

The picture is definitely worth revisiting c:
I know what you mean - spending time on a picture makes the artist's ability to find nitpicks disappear (it does that to me all the freakin time).

aww that's no good that you're tired D:

Possibly, i might just re-visit the pose at some point. I think the problem was i drew and inked this ages ago and i only did some of the colouring today. So i think i didn't spend that much looking at it when finishing it off, so i think that made it less likely for me to spot my mistakes.

I can get tired very easy sadly ^^;
