Steampunk Bazooka Girl by Karla-Chan Steampunk Bazooka Girl by Karla-Chan
I started this picture before Christmas, but kind of lost the energy to do it. But my partner kept pestering me to finish her. I think this is most likely been inspired by the film "Steam Boy" since i only watched it days before i started this.

The background texture was actually edited from a photo a took -> [link] I took this in the art gallery in Manchester UK. They are old Victorian posters from Manchester UK.

Bazooka Reference:
[link] I especailly liked this one since it was labelled what things where, which was useful when drawing it with the girl.

Looks kinda like she was ready to go to a party and had to save someone/thing large so she threw on her cap and got her lil gun ;)

I can see that actually.

I figured it was steampunk and even though it would be horrible impracticable to fit in a dress like that, the genre lets me get away with it a little.

That frille dress compliments the bazooka quite nicely :D And the same with her helmet and her shy face. Good job

hey it's the first time that you do some shading on the lineart itself right? it looks really good i like the way you gave volume to the cheeks.
but on the closeup i think the shading of the arm should be on the other side.
other than than really awesome the folds on the dress is really realloy well done! i think you are better than me in drawing outfits *w*

Oh I also did a full set of Major Arcana tarot cards in this style too. They have a tarot card folder. :)

No actually i have done 100s of pieces like this, when i say you have really missed a lot of stuff in my gallery i am not joking. I have some of this stuff in my art folder and the stuff in my "Fey Tales" folder is all like this. And in their is 3 books worth.

I am happy you like my dress though, i do enjoy doing all the folds and creases. Maybe you should find an old Victorian dress and use that as a reference it would give you plenty of practice with all the creases and folds.

That's totally awesome, bazooka, cool, pilot hat, cool, dress, also cool!

It's nice to see a 'fighter girl' who isn't just prancing about in a bikini =)

Thanks so much, i tend to like strong women. Sometimes i do draw them in skimpy clothes though ^^ but i don't tend to draw them in bikini's. I am happy you like the picture so much too!

Well, I must admit, I've drawn a few skimpy outfits before, but they're just not as interesting, I mean, there's a lot more room to add interesting details to a dress than a bikini, right? =)

I agree with you details can really make something unique. Although even when i draw skimpy things i do try and make them unique and detailed. :)

I like her dress design and the folds are really good. I kinda feel her left hand would be below the bazooka, though, to support it up. The shading on the close up of her face is a little weird (and her eyes are very wide apart).

I do admit i was unsure where i could have put the hand on the bazooka i could think of three different ways. I didn't worry about it being under it too much since it is on her shoulders. But i am guessing that way would have probably been more practical.

I was trying something a little different with her face. I was hoping it would make her look like she had high cheek bones. Because i am trying to make my faces look more different from each other since that is a weak area of mine. Any recommendations? It could be how the eyes seem wide apart, because i tend to draw a basic face, then play around with it.

I am happy you like her dress and the folds. :D

Higher cheekbones.... XD oh god I never think about it, I just paint and it kinda comes out that way because of how many pictures of people I saw. I can't really give any recommendation other than checking pictures of many different people and checking them out. May sound funny but character generators from games like Sims 3 or other that have sliders may be useful.
cheers!

I did see some shading that kind of looked like this, but not in this style. Do you think it could be because the black and white could look so harsh?

I think it's more because the shadow goes all the way to her nose. The hollow when people have high cheeks go along the lines of skull. If you remove the shading on the cheeks in the area below the eye and further down it could look better.
