Steampunk Alice BG by Karla-Chan Steampunk Alice BG by Karla-Chan
Ok i went a bit crazy with the BG but what do people think? I did want it to look a bit crazy since she is falling into wonderland. But how do you think i did? Does it look too much?

Sorry i have submitted more then one person, i felt i just needed to experiment.

I had this idea not long after seeing the new Alice in Wonderland and i had a convo with my BF about how i should draw a Steampunk Alice. And so i did! It took me pretty much all day, but i am pretty please with it.

A lot of my stock that i can show on here can be found in my collection-> [link]

This site is also very useful -> [link] you have to sign up, but you don't get any junk or anything. :)

I love the background - I don't think it's over-the-top at all
It compliments the theme brilliantly.

I noticed that there's a notice saying you would like critique, I hope I'm OK to say this and you won't get annoyed considering it looks like a lot of effort has gone into this lovely pic >_<

There's a few anomalies in Alice's body position which I've noticed.
Her closest foot could do with being rotated counter clockwise so it covers the shin a bit - this should make the perspective look better.
Her furthest leg needs to be lowered as it doesn't follow from her hip
And the goggles aren't centrally aligned (although this could be intentional as it makes her look more unseated)

The attention to detail is fab and I love the movement, I'm just sorry I had to point out anatomical stuffs

I have apologised on your painting comments as I wasn't aware that there was a separate procedure for critiques :(
I don't know how to delete it from there, but hopefully you can if you know how
What do you think?

Thanks so much, I am happy you like it. :) It seemed like a good idea mixing Steampunk with Alice in Wonderland, since the book was written in the Victorian era. :D

The goggles are the only think that are meant to be that way, because she is falling down and her hair is everywhere. The goggles are almost slipping off ^^;

I am happy you took time to critique me though, i wish i got more of it. I fully agree with you on the foot looking at it now. I can't figure out what you mean by her other leg, if you would like to explain more i would happily listen.

There is not need to be sorry about pointing out my faults, point out as many faults as you like because that way i can work on them and become a better artist. I do love it when people take time to comment on my work with such meaningful comments.

Oh that is perfect!! :excited: :D :D Thanks so much for going though all that effort to help me. You are fantastic example of how people have helped me improve my art. That is SUPER useful and i am really thankful for your help. Without people like you i would not be any where near as good as i am now. Thanks so much!

It is fine, o didn't spot the hip thing, i think when i drew it i drew it a little twisted but on your example her back is straighter so it works. It looks more natural.

Ha ha, bless ya
I'm glad you found it useful and not just annoying
And it was no problem at all - Like I say, I'm not great at verbally explaining things :)

Sorry it took so long to reply - I don't know if you can set up Deviantart with notifications that go to email

I am better at getting things visually so it explained everything to me perfectly by drawing it and showing me my mistake. I do not find it annoying at all, i find it helpful. It is because of people like you helping me with my art that has helped me improve. I was so bad when i first signed up.

No you can't set up Deviantart with notifications that go to email. There is talk of it, but it is getting mixed messages.

I want to start by saying that I love your style. Very cool to see a steampunk vision of Alice in Wonderland and quite appropriate. Sure, the white rabbit may be bronze, or copper at this point, but that totally fits the style. The composition of this piece is amazing, the eye is very well led around the piece, and has something to capture visual interest at almost every point. The textures and shadows of butterflies, gears, clocks, and writing in the background are probably my favorite part of the drawing, with the very nicely desaturated, grainy rainbow effec. Very unique, as is the filigree border only standing on one side of the image. The checkerboard circle to the left adds to the sense of her falling, and a brilliant sense of the distortion of "falling into the rabbit hole" Her figure is beautifully rendered with an accute attention to detail. There may be a few anatomical or foreshortening issues on the bottom/left (her right) arm. It looks very short, and it is difficult to distinguish where the elbow is. This is most likely easily corrected by a study of foreshortening, but it's a very minor issue, and does little at all to detract from the piece itself. I love the way her hair is drawn. That whole conservation of line on a lined piece is something I've always envied and longed to incorporate into any lined style I might attempt. Oh, and I just noticed the sillhouettes of the mushrooms in the lower right corner :D There is so much to love about this piece, and frankly, I'm not even a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland! You've done an absolutely fantastic job on this piece :D

Wow that was a very encouraging comment on this work, it is nice to know in detail why someone liked this. You're not the first to point out the forshortening issue this picture has and i agree, but hey try better next time. :) I do like it when people point these things out to me though. Sadly people don't do that as much as they used to.

I am happy you like all my details i do try my best because i do like it!
