You said that about tattoo's but honest once you get one, you get something called the itch, you'll end up wanting more.
My boyfriend has three tattoos -- two of Latin script on his arms, and a club (like the card suit) on the back of his neck. He told me pretty much the same thing. I just have to wait until I get back from teaching in Japan, because tattoos are frowned upon (long historical background) and I want to go to a hot spring! They won't let me soak in the hot springs if I have tattoos, so I'm waiting. :3
Some hot springs are OK with tattoo's because they know that in some countries they are fashion. But i know in some only criminals tend to get them. I had a European friend who had not been in the UK long and was really shocked i had them, for that reason. I was teaching at the time too, so he was even more horrified.
I talked to a friend of mine who had some tattoos when she went to study abroad (she had some cherry blossoms, and got a Sailor Moon tattoo while she was in Osaka) and she said pretty much everywhere was fine with it, she just didn't get talked to in the bath houses. Which is fine, because it would be weird if total strangers talked to me while we were naked. >>
So I'm going to start saving up for it now, but I just got laid off (right before Christmas, naturally, because my boss couldn't afford to pay me), so until I get that job back I'll be able to start saving for it~ It'll be my first tattoo.
I don't know about the UK, but for a period of about 18,000 years in Japan, tattoos were used by fisherman to ward off sharks, whales, and other "big fish," even facial tattoos (the Chinese commented on it around 300 ce). But tattoos were eventually used to establish social rank, and then only to denote criminals around 750 ce or so I think. So after that it was only for criminals and gang members until regaining popularity relatively recently as an art form.
/wallotext. Sorry, I almost did my thesis on that but someone else used it and I had to change my topic. >>;
I see, i can see why they would be wary of it. I think i wouldn't mind either way since from what i have seen you are under water any way
I am sorry to hear about your job loss, but saving up is a good idea, it is good top find a very good place to get it done. I had a really bad experience with my first tattoo the guy messed it up and scared me, but lucky i got it mostly fixed by a different artist. It still does look as good as the original but the second one fixed it up good.
I am not sure about the UK either, but i know it is fashion. And yeah i know the criminal thing came later but it is still in some countries as a taboo and japan is one of the, same with some eastern European countries.
I see, and i don't mind it can be interesting to talk to people
I do have some money in savings, so I'll be ok for rent and bills and stuff, but yeah... I want that job back so I can get this tattoo! lol. I'm thinking that I want to get my tattoo done by Dymond over at Lady Luck - [link] But I don't know much about tattoo artists... sorry to ask like this, but offhand, would you say it looks legit? n.n;; I'm glad you managed to get it fixed and it still came out nicely! Having something permanently etched into your skin and not exactly, perfectly what you want would be so upsetting, I can't even imagine what you must have gone through when you looked at it and realized it was wrong. D: Oh man.
What / where was your first tattoo?
My others are all very permanent though. My first was one of my dragons, holding a pentagram. The site didn't work for me, but i wouldn't look online. You want to have a look at the place in person, make sure it looks clean, and they use new needles, and one that has a good rep in your area.
You said your boy friend had tattoo's? The same place as him would be a wise choice if his tattoo's turned out OK.
It was really bad, i cried a lot over it, but i was so happy when the tattoo artist i saw got it fixed.
